…Over the last several years, most of the polling data I’ve seen shows that the public’s major concerns about nuclear power are centered on safety and waste management. Yet Canada has an impressive 46 year plus safety track record in the nuclear Industry. In fact, no Canadian nuclear worker or member of the public has been harmed by radiation from a nuclear power plant or waste management operation — ever. We have been able to achieve this because Canada developed world class CANDU “safetyin-depth” technology, has strong regulatory oversight and a highly skilled and trained nuclear workforce.

Canadians can now expect this same level of performance to be achieved from the next phase of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s (NWMO) process for selecting a site for the long-term management of Canada’s used nuclear fuel. Through an adaptive Phased Management approach, the used fuel bundles currently safely stored at licensed facilities at reactor sites in Canada will ultimately be placed…
